Sunscreen discovery
Helloooo and a very HAPPY FRIDAY to ya!
Any plans for the weekend ahead to share? We are freezing our bums off in Boston now. It's barely 45 degrees out and the city is filled with runners! Marathon Monday is around the corner so the city is alive and full of energy. I love it.
Boston locals out there- do you have the day off? Where will you be when thousands of runners take off?
Insanity Insanity Insanity!
I'm so gosh darn excited right now. I have almost finished my first FULL week of Insanity and I'm still alive and walking and smiling!
Today was Plyometric Cardio Circuit again (same from earlier in the week). I like this one, especially the final set of drills which is a killer: stand tall, hands up jump out to plank. 4 push ups followed by running for 8 counts while still in plank position. Then you jump your feet in, stand up and REPEAT repeat repeat. So fabulous and a killer ab workout. I feel strong and powerful when I do this combo.
Today I was incredible sore after Pure Cardio from yesterday. I ate a huge breakfast of oatmeal topped with banana and peanut butter plus a giant scoop of my Shakeology added in. It tasted wonderful and gave me a some magical energy. I tell ya friends, Shakeology is a dream for my body. It just goes longer and feels at it's top when I drink it daily. People are starting to comment on my skin and hair nearly every day. It's gotta be my magical Shake!
Tomorrow is a wonderful, glorious, incredible REST DAY! I will be one happy girl.
Sunscreen discovery
Today I met with a cosmetic clinician. We were having a lengthy discussion about skin care, sun damage, wrinkles, all that fun jazz. She was incredibly knowledgeable and I learned a few very important things from her. If you are in the area and looking for someone to see about your skin care or possible treatment, her name is Kelly and she works at Essentially Bare. She was awesome!
A few discoveries today about sunscreen. It is NOT recommended that you use a sunscreen that is combined with your daily moisturizer. News to anyone else but me? And here is why:
- The amount of actual SPF in a dollop of moisturizer is not nearly enough to provide the SPF coverage the bottle says it will. My Neutrogena moisturizer says SPF 30. I would have to use at least a 1 oz pour (size of a shot glass) on my face in order to get SPF 30 coverage.
- Moisturizer soaks into your skin. You do not want your SPF to actually "soak" into your pores. This is why there is a lot of surfacing research about some of the negative side effects of particular sun screen ingredients. It is not intended to soak in to your pores or body. Read up on this HERE.
- The ingredients in preferred sunscreen are either zinc or titanium block. These two ingredients do not have the research demonstrating that they can be harmful or toxic to our bodies. Kelly told me to look more for the zinc rather than titanium because titanium can leave an almost gray-like shade of color when applied on your skin.
There is so much research out there friends. I will be doing some reading this weekend so anything I find, I will be sure to share! I am CONSTANTLY learning about how to best care for our bodies.
Have a wonderful Friday.
Till next time!

Hmm.. I actually don't have moisturizer that has SPF in it, but I was looking into getting one – now you have me doubting! Sunscreen and skin care are so important, thanks for the info!
